Growing up in Woods Cross Utah, Lorelai started ballet at the age of 2 years old at recreational studio Bountiful School of Ballet, where she would graduate from 16 years later. She grew up doing mainly ballet, while also training in some jazz. She went on to be a part of school programs such as Legacy Preparatory Academy’s Dance Company and Ballroom Team, as well as president of Woods Cross High School’s Dance Company and member of their Theater Department. Not only was Lorelai just a dancer growing up, but she was also an all-star competitive cheerleader for 12 years, coached by her mom.
Where it all started…
Lorelai’s passion for dance started to grow during her junior-senior years of high school. Throughout that time she was able to study with Ballet West’s Summer Intensive, as well as University of Utah’s ballet intensive. It was during her senior year where her family stumbled upon Oklahoma City University (OCU) online. OCU quickly became Lorelai’s dream school for the multitude of dance styles and musical theater emphasis. She is currently attending OCU as a junior dance performance major. Lorelai loves getting to pursue her passions, and better her craft every single day.
Passion for choreography
Lorelai’s passion for choreography began with cheerleading. She loved the visual appeal that routines would create, and she would constantly be choreographing for fun. This has lead her to choreograph for local school cheer programs for their pom routines. Her first dance piece she ever choreographed for stage was for Legacy Preparatory Academy’s Dance Company in the eighth grade. She then gained more choreography skills and experience through Woods Cross High School’s Dance Company, and Theater Department.
Throughout her time so far at OCU she has had the opportunity to choreograph for Project 21-Music for the 21st Century. Through this experience she got to work with a student composer choreographing to an original piece of music. She also got to collaborate with another OCU student, to choreograph The Drowsy Chaperone for the musical theater department. Lorelai is just as passionate about choreography as she is performing, and she is excited to continue following and pursuing this passion.
Love for Performing
Lorelai has always loved performing on stage. She grew up performing in ballet and jazz recitals, competing in cheerleading competitions, and performing with her school’s dance companies. It wasn’t until her senior year of high school where she got to visit New York City, that she knew she had to turn her passion for performing into a career. She’s always loved musical theater, and getting to see live Broadway shows changed everything for her. She loves everything about the performing arts, and sharing important stories with audiences.
“The vulnerability that comes with being an artist and a performer is something that is so beautiful. Art is so important and keeping dance as an artform alive and breathing is so important. I love everything about it, and can’t wait to keep sharing the passion I have for dance.”
